Post subject: How do you spot and report a farmer/power leveling bot?
Archived from groups: alt>games>warcraft (more info?)

THe past few days in Felwood on Nathrezim, there has been a Tauren
Warrior named Cronus (with a ' over the o, but I don't know how to add
that). I first noticed him when I stopped to skin some abandoned
corpses. He was fighting some bears, and had pulled 3 bears, and had
died just as I rode up. I skinned the corpses and left.

Few hours later I was going past the same place and saw him again,
fighting too many mobs and dies. I again, skin some corpses, and
leave.

After a while I started making sure I looked as I rode past and sure
enough, everytime I rode past he was in the same area. I personally
witnessed him die 4 times. He did not respond to chat. And when I
started fearing mobs while he was fighting them, he did nothing but
chase them down, kill them, then go on to the next bear.

I eventually added him to my friends list. He leveled from 52 to 54
in less than 1 day just killing (and being killed by) bears. And he
is signed on every single time I get on, and I believe him to be
online 24/7.

Is this conclusive enough proof that he is a power leveling bot? He
couldn't have been a farmer because those bears don't drop much, and
he wasn't skinning them. If he is, how do I report him?

I just opened a ticket to GM when I ran across one (Hunter)
I had whispered a few players who were leveling in the same area.
They had reported him as bot but nothing done.

After I kept stealing his kills etc. I knew he was a bot.

After reporting him he was gone the next day.

Lots out there ,,,,usually hunters for some reason.

Simply send in a GM ticket for harassment or something like that. The
GM's will look into it.

Alot of the times spotting a farmer/bot is all about response. Wave at
them, kiss them, if they're the same faction say hello.

If they're following a same pattern and never respond to several
verbal introcutions its quite possibly a bot.

Although I know alot of "levellers" are real people not programs.

No. He could just be an antisocial player.

Obviously, he was there for exps. And, equally obvious, it works for him.

Farming is not reportable. Farming is not bannable. Farming is what every
toon in-game eventually does, unless they choose to learn/play the AH really
well. Farming = killing/gathering for cash.

Botting, being away from your keyboard while playing, now THAT is
reportable. Just use the red ? on your tabs to open a GM ticket. The closest
category I found was 'harrassment' - but I am sure you can give details just
about anywhere.

Follow him for awhile, see if he's running the same repetitious loop in an
area.

Sounds like a bot though. Take a toon that has an instant-cast dmg ability
(druid moonfire is perfect), follow him, make a macro to /assist (find out
how to type that odd character in the name), and as soon as he targets
something, smack moonfire. It'll tag it to you, but he'll engage it, try to
break off as it's not tagged, but since the mob is still on him he'll either
die to it or the bot may be forced to fight your mobs for you.

Or, train a big pack of mobs onto him. How? Get a bunch following you by
proximity aggro only (don't do any dmg or tag them). Drag them right thru
the area he's in, within 'charge' range, chances are he'll charge one of
them and get the whole pack on him.

If he dies enough times to have all gear go red with hardly any exp gained,
or runs there for several hours and gets almost no exp b/c you keep stealing
his kills, that'll learn him.

Of course, you should also just report him to a GM. They'll investigate
every report of a bot, they have a way to 'see' your session to see what
you're doing, and it is quickly obvious to them if you're a bot. They don't
instantly ban people though, they ban bots in waves. Why? If they instantly
banned a bot that was caught by a particular means, the botters would figure
out how to circumvent that. By doing it in waves, they don't see it coming
and will lose a much bigger amount of time by losing high-level or gold-rich
toons. When they do this, it puts a big reduction instantly on the number of
bots and it'll take time for them to start resurfacing again.

Pretty sure I spotted my first farmers that I noticed anyways the other day
in Tanaris at the ogre site where all the Gasridian is. I was there for
the gasridian, but these 2 dwarf hunters, both with names like oixcfz,
not even a name just kept doing circles around the outside of the complex
killing ogres. No responses ever. I tagged an ogre here and there they were
running at but no bitch, nothing. Just continued on to the next.

Bull puckey. The sentence I quoted is pretty good proof that it's a bot. No
player is going to tolerate that without saying something.

Until he gets his ass banned.

If he's farming. He's not of course. To the original poster - get the
spamsentry addon, it will add a context menu to every player that makes
auto-reporting them very easy - it even fills out the report for you in the
proper category. *

I had other people in my guild whisper him. NO responses. He has
since leveled to 56 and has moved on to winterspring, so I can't find
him again. But I think I will report him tonight sometime.

I understand farming isn't reportable, but botting is. That was my
original question was if this guy was a bot. If he was a farmer, he
was just a farmer, he picked a really odd place to farm. Those bears
drop nothing, and you only get anything out of them if you skin them.
And he wasn't skinning so it had to be for just XP.

Although bear in mind real people don't always respond; I tend to ignore
random people unless I know them, cause I'm not the most social person Wink

Look up in the northeast corner of the zone in the wildkin area. It's a
popular spot for bots to play, because it's a sparsely populated area.

I don't have any doubts the person you saw was a bot. *

I agree. Based on the actions you described, I would have opened a GM
ticket and reported them as a bot. I would have also made sure to get them
to kill a few mobs for me.

It might take Blizzard a while to ban this guy, but they do generally get
the job done.

Another good one is SpamSentry which I've been using for about a week or so

No.

Watch his movement pattern. A bot will move in the same loop
repeatedly. It will not leave that loop to go get a mob until the mob
aggros the player.

If you see that pattern a couple of times, you can be 99% sure it's a
bot.

Hi,

lcpltom schrieb:

I have seen something similar. A Troll Hunter LVL30+ with a pig as a pet
in the shimmering flats and a Tauren Hunter LVL40+ with a pig south of
gadgetzan.

They did the same thing again and again, attack with the pet and
shoot with the bow, then regenerate. They were no skinners and I canīt
remember if they looted or not.

It is also possible that they were no bots, instead it was one
human playing more than 1 Character at the same time.

That means he got 2-3 Screens+Keyboards+mice and does skill them
as fast as possible.
