Archived from groups: alt>games>warcraft (more info?)

Yesterday while leveling my hordie I spotted a strange sight on my way
to Kargath. There was a warlock, with a train of "copies" following
him around, seemingly farming. I forget his name but for example's
sake it was "mysterious" and he was followed by "mysteriousA",
"mysteriousB", "mysteriousC", etc. I think there were 4 "extras", 5
players all together. It appeared that the first player (just
"mysterious) was being controlled by a human - that is, he didn't have
Bot-Like behaviour, plus he had a bunch of normal buffs. However the
other four could not have been independently controlled... they moved
in a trail/train all in sync until they came upon a mob then they all
attacked it (VW's included) and moved on.

Anyone else see this? Is it some kinda crazy buff akin to the classic
mage spell Mirror Image, or is it cheat-farming?

Well, its definantly not a spell. Its someone who has a bunch of
other characters who used /follow on him.

As far as the voidwalkers attacking, if he set the voidwalkers on
aggressive, they will automatically attack anything within an aggro
radius to themselves. Did the "copies" actually attack? If they did,
I'd say they may have been botting. Or, the leader was leading a
group somewhere. It would be really odd for this to happen and I
can't think of any advantage this would create for the leader or for
the followers, as all the XP would be split 5 ways, not an effecient
way to powerlevel.

What mobs were they fighting? Was the leader skinning the mobs (if
applicable)? Doesn't seem like an effecient way to farm either.
Would have made more sense to have all different warlock pets out to
get the advantages of each one.

As far as I'm aware, if they are on 5 different accounts, and one
person is controlling 5 characters, it's legal. (at least, not against
the ToS.)

Mysterious has ABCD follow him, he targets, has all of them set to
attack on assist (can be set from the interface options) hits the
assist button for the other 4 computers, pewpew. target down. move to
next.

There's one person that did this with modified keyboards to have four
mages follow his priest around. Anyone the priest points at gets nuked
by all four mages. (Do not engage these type of people in PVP combat.)
Blizzard apparently is fine with people using linked keyboards and
characters as long as you've paid for the extra accounts.

Neither one. It's 5-boxing. The guy has 5 computers and 5 WoW
accounts. He has the computers set up (most likely with a customized
keyboard and mouse setup) so he can conveniently control all 5
characters at once. Perhaps the best known 5-boxer around is a guy
whose main character is named Xzin (google for that name and you'll
find several stories about him). Blizzard is well aware of him, and
considers it perfectly okay, as long as no cheats or bots are
involved.

Xzin's setup is 1 priest and 4 mages, and, according to the stories,
he is very hard (but not impossible) to beat in PVP.

Did not know there was an interface option to attack on assist.

Attack on assist means when you press the key you mapped 'assist' to
or use the /assist function. It will change your target, but if your
auto attack isn't on, do you want it turned on?

For a warlock, turning on autoattack when you assist is kinda
pointless. You want to cast spells, send in your pet, etc.

In this example, the followers were warlocks, right? So attack-on-assist
wouldn't do much good, aside from possibly sending in the pets. You want
the warlock followers to be casting *spells*, not autoattacking with their
staffs.

He had to be using some sort of master/slave keyboard setup to make the
followers cast spells.
