| Just make it impossible for lvl 1 chars to leave the starting area. Like
maybe put a lvl 5 mob outside that doesnt loose aggro when you run away from
him, or just put a min level req for entering major cities.

That stops them from getting to the cities, but it doesn't stop them from
issuing invites.

That could actually be stopped fairly easy. Just don't let trial accounts
invite real accounts. For ppl who are trying out the game and has a friend
already playing, they will then still be able to group up.
The one about putting a "high" lvl mob outside the starting areas can be
circumvented with a friendly mage or warlock. Putting a lvl req on entering
cities can work, but would be too annoying for the real players if it was
more than lvl 5. It would still slow the gold spammers down a bit though, if
they had to lvl every char to 5.

Low level players can't whisper higher level players anymore. Used to
be the fold spammers would do it with whispers.
When they could no longer whisper players to spam their gold, they
started spamming group invites. This way, should you accept the
invite, they can talk to you through group chat.
What can really throw a wrench in your gears is they often convert
this group into a raid group. And when you're a member of a raid
group, you can't complete quest objectives (unless the quest is marked
as a raid quest) >> Stay informed about: solution for gold sellers |

The spammers on my realm have been getting smart. They've been
creating more realistic names. Sometimes its something like Johnsjdu,
which could be a real player as I have seen some strange names. But
sometimes they do come up with some creative names that seem like they
could be an actual player. >> Stay informed about: solution for gold sellers |

Or maybe set a maximum amount of gold for trial characters or low
level characters... 1g is more than enough for a level 1 chaacter if
it is a real player. >> Stay informed about: solution for gold sellers |

Can someone explain why those level 1 gold sellers need to invite you to
their group? What does that do for them? I'm tempted to join to see what
happens but I really don't want to associated with them in any way.

I've accepted, just for shits and giggles. At first, on my realm, they were
gold sellers. A group would be formed, the leader would spam, the group
would be disbanded. The character names were usually nonsense--just a mix
of random letters. Now they're normal looking character names, the
character is invariably, since I'm largely Alliance, a L1 Warrior in Elwynn
Forest, and the spam is for power leveling.

I don't know what Blizzard blocks they get around by grouping, but I've
made a habit of accepting with my bank alt just so I can confirm that
they're what I expect them to be, and report them. I figure getting a
group request from someone I don't know halfway around the world is
probably never legit, but I give them the benefit of the doubt...

I really hate it when I have myself in the LFG queue for an instance
or a quest and then get a random invite. I always have to check to
see if its a level 70 inviting me or a level 1. Accepting the group
invite bumps you out of the LFG tool. >> Stay informed about: solution for gold sellers |

Yeah. I said "Now they're normal looking character names". So I agree
with you, it's much smarter to do this, and harder to just assume it's a
spammer.

There is a maximum for trial characters - 10g is the limit. Which is
actually very easy to get on a trial account - it's capped at lvl 20 and
when you get there every quest gives money instead of exp.

I ignore group invites from strangers who are not in visual range. I
also do not "decline" but simply ignore the invite until it times

Group invites don't work like that. Only duel requests work that way
I believe. And trade requests too maybe.
