Apropos of nothing, and not getting involved in the legal discussion,
but Blizzard has implemented many different methods to prevent many
kinds of gold spam. The reason it's happening in /say is that they've
actually made it *much* more difficult to gold spam by other methods.
I cannot recommend the "SpamSentry" AddOn enough. It uses the built-
in
Blizzard Spam-reporting method (did you know you can right-click on a
name in /say, select "Report Spam", and it will both report them and
it
will auto-/ignore their *entire account*, right?) to keep you from
seeing those messages, and give you a one-click (well, two-click, once
on the "Click [here] to report this post." message from SpamSentry,
and
once on the "Report" button to finalize the report) method to report
goldspammers. Since using SpamSentry, I've never seen more than one
post from any goldspammer, since it's a quick two clicks to repor
them.
Even without SpamSentry, you can right-click in /say and report/ignore
that way.
So, basically, Blizzard *does* get around to doing something about the
spam, and they've made it much harder to spam, and much easier to
report/ignore spam.

The other thing you can do to avoid the spam is to avoid the more
populated areas. Think about it, where do you always run into people
with the /say spam? Orgrimmar and Ironforge, right? Maybe the
occasional Stormwind or Undercity spam. Its always in the places
where people congregate too, innkeepers, flight masters, auction
houses, and malboxes.
Darnassus, Thunder Bluff, Exodar, and Silvermoon are all cities where
you find very few people in, its not worth the spammers time to go
here when they will only hit a small audience. Not to mention with
Silvermoon you have 2 inns, 2 auction houses, 2 banks, 11 mailboxes,
and the flight master is outside, way out of /say radius of what few
people are in Silvermoon. I believe Exodar was set up with the same
idea, decentralize the city so you don't get everyone congregating in
the same areas.
At level 70 there should be no reason for your main to visit one of
the old cities anymore, other than looking for something on the AH,
which can easily be done by an AH alt. I only ever go back when I
need a crafter and they happen to be in one of the old cities.
Shattrath fulfills my needs for a major city. A place for my hearth,
a bank, and plenty of mailboxes and vendors.
My bank/AH alt is set up in Silvermoon. No spam and I never have to
deal with 10 people all standing on the mailbox/auctioneer/banker.
Not to mention they put the auctioneers up on pedastals so they can't
be stood upon. >> Stay informed about: Goldsellers and gold buyers beware |

No, because quoting the dictionary at someone is a deliberate insult. It's
like spelling C-A-T to someone.

Um, no. I think I knew what the word meant already. Stop being
condescending and maybe we'll have a conversation. *

No condecenscion or insult intented, sorry if you took it that way.
It was merely an attempt to define terms, for my own benefit as well as much
as anyone else.
Sometimes I hate the written medium of the Internet, where there is little room

This has always been a limitation of written communication. Just think of
all the poor monks in the middle ages who lacked the invention of the
emoticon! That's probably what got Galileo in such hot water with the
Church. (The Church was in fact sympathetic to science, but his
communication skills sucked.) >> Stay informed about: Goldsellers and gold buyers beware |

Could they legally? Data protect etc... They could force, I suppose,
IGE to supply the list to the court, but the court couldn't then go
share that data could it? What about the rights of the user? It's just
not as simple as that I think >> Stay informed about: Goldsellers and gold buyers beware |

Blizzard could subpoena those regards as an investigation into
improper use of their software, much like the RIAA subpoenas ISP
records to track down people who download music via P2P networks. On
top of that, since the lawsuit is seeking class action status,
Blizzard could become part of the class action, as the actions of IGE
can directly effect their service and their customers. This I believe
would also give them access to any documentation IGE turns over to
them. >> Stay informed about: Goldsellers and gold buyers beware |

Wrong! Galileo invented modern scientific writing. >> Stay informed about: Goldsellers and gold buyers beware |

They'd share it with the AG, not the court, and the AG would most
likely send it to Blizzard to verify the user information, since they're
only interested in Florida consumers.
> On top of that, since the lawsuit is seeking class action status,

You're confusing the two legal actions. Blizzard can't join the AG's
legal action; they're looking into violations of state law. It'd be like
Blizzard attempting to join a murder investigation/trial... >> Stay informed about: Goldsellers and gold buyers beware |
