I can't say I have a clue how he earned 20k of gold, but getting gold for
your 60% or even your epic ground mount shouldn't be that difficult. Just
normal questing in Outlands should make you enough money for an epic ground
mount by the time you finish Zangarmarsh.
My main is a 70 dwarf warrior. He has a regular and epic ground mount and a
60% flying mount. He also has around 2500g on hand. My playing time can be
described as sporadic at best (I'm not playing at all atm). All I do to
make money is quest and sell boe items that I find at the AH or to vendors.
The only professions that make money are gathering professions for the most
part. If you're willing to grind out the mats you can probably make decent
money with alchemy or tailoring at high levels. Tailoring selling bags and
alchemists selling pots. Just sell pots that are popular with raiders.
Don't waste your time trying to make money with blacksmithing. It's a money
pit and most of the good plans create bop items. The ones that are boe have
mats that sell for more than the item will sell for. My main is a
blacksmith, so I speak from experience here.
Also if you grind enough stuff, eventually you'll get lucky and get a world
drop that sells for a bundle.
