Some of the guild chat last night had members moaning about how their gold
delivey had been delayed. This made me think about what the point of playing
was, I personally enjoy trying to make a bit of cash to get the items I
want, it seems if you just buy gold you may aswell not play as you'll get
the best of everything and then what?
So do you buy it and why? >> Stay informed about: Do you actually buy gold? |

I consider the fact that I twink up my alts with spare cash and items
(I mean how else would a level 35 priest be 300 Tailoring, and 285
enchanting?) enough of a dodge...
I would never consider buying gold, I do report bots when I see them,
because its one of the few times cheating can actually be enforced. It
takes a fair bit of time to level to 60/70 to farm some stuff. So if
their account is suspended, it costs them that time.
Some people seem to think its a valid thing, perhaps if they don't
bot, to farm to sell... Well, its never going to be that big a market
I think, and suspect the ones who do it can make far more money in a
real job... Lots of speculative gold collectors, doesn't mean a lot of
buyers. I take heart in the desperate spamming they do in game.
Usually a sign of failure...

Absolutely not.
It's 100% to me about the ethics as I like to earn my own stuff. On
the other hand, think about what happens when you buy gold. It
encourages farming. So the farmers keep farming away, perhaps tying up
places where I need to quest, or I need one Primal to make something,
but they keep killing things before I can so I can't get any Motes,
etc.
Frankly, I'd quit any guild whose members bought gold.
Money really isn't all that difficult to make. Last night my Paladin
Partied with a Hunter friend. I had thrown on my Healer gear and
Healed while he finished up some quests in Zangarmarsh. I changed Loot
to FFA, and whenever he finished Looting something I'd still still
sparklies, so I'd go Loot. Fractured Carapaces, Twitching Legs. I
asked him why he wasn't picking this stuff up. "Why?" Um, 'kay. By the
end of the night I think I had made 35 gold just by selling Fractured
Carapaces, Twitching Legs and other vendor trash.

I never buy gold... I actually like to play wow and all aspects of the game
including getting gold. I have 2 chars lvl70 with epic flying mount atm and
7000g in bank so I dont see any reason to buy gold. I would like to point
out that I didnt go deliberatly to gring gold, I got it in the process of

same
although i did purposly farm up (leveled my alt to 70) my first riding 300
then dailys come along, using my speedy mount made them even easier
(also made a ton of netherwing dailys while farming rep for my netherdragon)
in total so far i have bought riding 300 on my main, my alt, and (part)
riding 300 for my mate(he heals so farming is hard work)
gold is so easy to get currently, i don't get why players still whine that
they have no gold
but then, these are prob the sort of poeple with 10 credit cards having
maxed em all out

I don't think I have ever been short of gold and wouldn't feel right
about buying it anyway. I have suspended my AH activities now because
having a level 5 with over 30k is probably going to reverse-twink my
level 70s for a while yet

I've also been thinking since I posted the first message.
I personally consider buying gold cheating, but where do you draw the line,
my main supplies my alts with gear, no need for gold as they seem to have
enough any how, but is that along the same lines?
I also boost an alt on another account through instances where the drops are
straight on AH, do you think that is close to the cheating line? I'm not
sure as it's all my creation, but maybe you think differently. >> Stay informed about: Do you actually buy gold? |

I think there are 2 things that drive gold.
Epic mounts and low twinks...at least that is all I can see that you
need gold in that amount for.
I don't have either ROFL
but I think with the expansion you saw tons of level 29 twinks with oh
ok give me one of those 3 of those....and some of those
oh yea where is an enchanter I need 2 of those 100G enchants
the low player trying to play and have fun is WTF happened?
So they want gold to compete and you AINT going to get that kind of
gold in goldshire

Buying gold is cheating, no two ways about it. I simply won't do it but
there are times when I'm having to grind for materials for trade skills
(blacksmithing atm) that I can totally and completely understand people who
do buy gold. I've managed to get 360/375 in 6 days and it is nothing short
of purgatory at times, there is no fun involved in spending several hours
scouring round for mining nodes, competing with others, when those materials
are readily available on the AH.
I tried just questing for gold and buying a few stacks but it got expensive,
I got a lot of help from friends supplying materials around the 250-300 mark
which took the sting out of the grinding there and I then decided to grind
the rest myself to 360 since 300-360 isn't that tough in my opinion. I'm now
at the stage of solo farming crypts for the felsteel gloves plans so I can
make 375 and I'm not looking forward to grinding the materials for those 15
points either.
The reason for the grind is that I have a 375 plan - boots of the
protector - I'm working towards. >> Stay informed about: Do you actually buy gold? |

For me cheating is botting, buying gold, exploiting... not sending money to
an alt since it's your money that you earned honestly. I see it as a rich
relative who helps his family :p
It's 1 thing to rob a bank to start a business and it's another thing to
(buy gold to do somehitng) and it's another thing to take the money you
earned in a honest business to expand to other fields (use your honestly
earned money to powerlevel a profession).
I dont see nothing wrong in having a friend help an alt with some instance
noone goes specially boosting enchanters to uldaman (to get to the trainer)
and stuff. >> Stay informed about: Do you actually buy gold? |

I highly doubt there are people with only 1 lvl 29 twink and they buy gold
for high lvl enchants, most if not all twinks are chars from someone that
has at least a lvl 70. For twinks I mean chars that have all expensive high
lvl enchants. I saw a lock lvl 39 in BG with +222 shadow dmg and 2500 hp and
he was in party with a priest with same stats, the 2 of them killed half AB
on their own... >> Stay informed about: Do you actually buy gold? |

Rogues are by nature thieves and murderers so max he should do is steal from
people and gank them :p
I dont see cheaeting in the rogue description. >> Stay informed about: Do you actually buy gold? |

I don't have any special affinity for making gold. I do use auctioneer
to help set prices on the AH, and I double-gather for maximum profit,
but beyond that, I just play the game, fairly casually and usually solo,
and I rake money in.
When I first started, my high-level friend gave me a 2g starter. At
level 60, she loaned me 90g to buy my epic mount, after the training
wiped me out. I was able to pay her back within a week.
I'm currently 67, and have over 1200g on hand, more than enough to buy
my flier when I hit 70.
Buying gold isn't just cheating, it's lazy and not terribly necessary.
