Archived from groups: alt>games>warcraft (more info?)

Just figured I'd mention this. I *usually* don't have many bad run-ins
in game, but over the weekend my winning streak went south.

I'm on my hunter in northern BEM farming the fire elementals for Motes
of Fire. My mage needed them anyways for her Sunfire enchant. So,
there is another hunter there who has an epic mount. I figure already
I'll get a few less of the spawns than him, but no big deal. He lands
in an area with 2-3 mobs and will trap one for later to keep it
tagged. No biggie there either. It's pretty standard, and I usually
do that too. So I fly around finding any groups that he's not on.
Find a group of two. I tag both and trap one for after I finish. He
then purposefully shoots and breaks my trap, and then feigns so it
reaggros to me. Now this isn't truly a problem. I can take two of
them, so I do, but the fact that he's trying to get me killed is
annoying. He continues to do this every time I have a mob trapped.
THEN, I spot a Adamantine node. I fly over, start mining. This
jackass steps up and starts mining it too. I figure to myself, "No
problem. When my loot window opens I'm just not gonna grab them and
I'll wait for him to walk away before continuing to mine.". Fate
wouldn't have that though. My mining skill is only 334, and so on my
first hit I got a failed attempt. His went through, and he continued
to mine the whole thing out before I could get it tapped.

At this point I wish I had 5 minutes in Blizzard's server room and an
open SQL prompt Very Happy.

Mike

It happens...

Was farming for Zaxxis insignias and had a horde hunter aggro about 6
ethereals, run over to me and then feign death. Naturally they started
beating on me so I went blade flurry to tag all of them and then
popped smoke and just sat there stealthed...I got to watch the horde
hunter sulk off in a huff.....

Bad news, sorry to here about the trudgery you went through.

There is one thing I don't understand here. After he feigned death,
why did the mobs go after you and not after his pet?

Sometimes I run into a rude toon myself there.

If the feign death trick works perhaps the next time I run into a rude
toon I can dismiss my pet, aggro a boatload of mobs (imps and lizards)
while near the embattled toon (ofttimes a mage) and feign death then
sit back and watch. I be sure to yell "LET"S HAVE FUN!!"

Then again it is hard for me to stoop to that level. I have to be
having a bad day to actually carry out acts of revenge on rude people.

Well odds are sooner or later I am going to have a bad day. (snicker)

I never saw his pet and I assume that he had dismissed it. The kicker
is that I wasn't acting in a rude manner, just tagging ethereals one
at a time and trying to stay well away from other farmers in the area.
I've even had situations where I was close to another farmer and
indicated for them to go ahead and tag one that was close to both of
us. This particular horde hunter seems to have carried out his act
simply because I was alliance and he was horde (this is on a PvE
server)...perhaps he had a bad day in one of the BGs, hard to say....

On another note, had something interesting happen at the summoning
stone in Colifang the other night. Was waiting for a party member to
show up (you know the guy in the group that forgets water or arrows or
something and stones back to Shatt...) and there were a couple of
horde players nearby. These two horde clowns were challenging each
other to duels and the hunter of the pair was setting snake traps. The
other would purposely trip the trap and stand there and die so that
the snakes would attack other nearby players. If one of our group
swung at a snake that would have marked him PvP and most likely all
hell would have broken loose because there was a fairly sizable crowd
of both factions milling about.....fortunately nobody bit on the
antics and the snakes just annoyed us until they died.....These two
clowns tried it several times before they gave up.....

Yep. The only way to sucessfully pull mobs onto someone who didn't
tag them already is to hope that they're either a) doing AOE that will
hit them, or b) to hope that they'll panic and hit one of them. The
old "I'll aggro a bunch and run them over to this hordie!" trick
doesn't work without them screwing up though Smile.

because he had shot them before entrapping them. the other hunter shot
them as well, but apparently did not send in his pet. this only means
two people were on its aggro list and when the other hunter fd, it
dropped him leaving only the OP on the aggro list.

this only works if they attack the mobs. otherwise they wont be on the
threat list, and the mobs will just reset.

It's a fairly standard practice in heavily-farmed areas, especially when
someone is being a pig and tagging things they're not attacking (hint).

One time I was in the cave in shadowmoon and someone rubberbanded 5
ravagers on me. They were *really* pissed when I managed to kill them all
and live. Even funnier, a netherwing egg dropped from one of them.

The secret behind this trick is to gather up mobs that will be near the
player when they snap back to their home positions. If you don't see it
coming you can get a whole group prox aggroed on you. *
