Archived from groups: alt>games>warcraft (more info?)

As I've mentioned in other posts on this forum, I'm currently in the
process of switching my main from a druid to a warlock. My goal is to
have my warlock to level 60 by January 16th (BC release date). This is
also considering the fact that I will be busy for most of the Christmas
season so I'll be missing out on some heavy-duty playing.

I have two questions:

First, how quickly do people generally make it to 60. (I only have one
other toon and I wasn't watch /played time all that much.)

Second, what are some tips for power leveling? Note, I don't care
about gear/whatever all that much. I do want to build up the two
professions, though (don't care about cooking/fishing).

Here's hoping I can do it. (BTW - my warlock is up to level 23 with 1
day 12 hours of play time). Do you think I'll make it?

I think the first thing you better do is contact H. G. Wells and see if
he can point you to the nearest merchant for the purchase of a fully
operational and funtional Time Machine.

Haha, yeah, I'm definitely liking the warlock a lot more. (Being able
to handle 4 mobs of >= level to me is awesome. My druid could never do
that.)

And, I'd rather not use a service becuase, well, I think that's against
Blizzard's TOS and I really don't want to lose my account.

Ive made it in 5 days /played. It can be done faster. Few things ive
learned leveling to 60 four times:
1. Ignore the AH and professions. Only level first-aid
2. Quests are faster then grinding. While your questing kill everything
the yields exp.
3. stay away from groups and instances
4. Try to stay a level or two ahead of the quest your doing or mobs
your killing.
5. Do not die, if your dead running back to your corpse your not
gaining exp
6. always log out in a main city or an inn

Theres a lot of good quest guides out there to help you, the key is to
get xp/hr to around 20-25k while still questing and you will tear thru
the levels. 33-40 IMO are the worst levels, once you hit 40 for me it
seems a lot easier to level.

Well he's got 36 days.

He better keep us informed.

I still say he is going to need a time machine.

Then again maybe he is in college and will soon have a month of free
time on his hands between now and then.

Wowwwwww...5 days /played. Haha. That's insane.

You meantion quest guides? Are they just guides that explain the best
order to get quests in? Do you have any suggestions? I
(theoretically) should be able to level even faster now that the cap on
the quest logs is 25.

As for pairing up for instances, I won't do PUGs or anything like that.
I do have 3 level 60 friends who tell me to get all the quests for
instances and then they run me through. I complete a bunch of quests
very quickly that way (as well as receive some very nice gear).

Eight days /played is pretty fast. Ten days is decent.

The fastest way to level is probably to pick an area that has lots of mobs
of about your level, and just kill kill kill. It helps if you're familiar
with the quests in the area and can pick them up in a strategic order,
rather than hopping back and forth.

Great advice. Thanks.

And, actually, I'm definitely very ineffecient in leveling right now,
so I'll have to try some of these. The parallel areas is a good idea,
though.

One great grinding spot I found were the Terrowulfs in Ashenvale. I
was breaking 30K xp/hr grinding with a priest on those. They have low
hps and abilities that aren't too bad.

Both Cooking and Alchemy (and thus Herbalism) are quite useful. I'm
becoming more and more inclined to ignore all other Professions, though.

To achieve that, one can visit "parallel level areas".

Elwynn Forest is a parallel level area to Dun Morogh. Westfall is a
parallel level area to Loch Modan. Duskwood is a parallel level area to
Wetlands. So if one has done all the quests in Elwynn Forest, one can
travel to Dun Morogh and do a few of the highest level quests there.
Likewise when one is done with all the quests in Westfall, one can trave
to Lock Modan and do a few of the highest level quests there.

Yup, that's very important advice.

Matches my experience too, except I haven't advanced past mid 30s yet.
But lower levels are definitely easier than early 30s.

is then more than 4 hours per day.

Getting a boost to travel speed might help too, i.e. Paladin or Hunter,
or even that Enchant on boots (although that one is probably very
expensive). Hunters get a +30% speed travel mode at lvl 20. Paladins can
spend 2 Talent Points to get +2x4% travel speed. Druids also get
something. Boots can, IIRC, also give +8% which AFAIK does not stack
with the Paladin effect.

It might not sound like much, especailly those +8%, but you do spend a
lot of time travelling from place to place, and every little helps.

You can hope 7 days as a hard to achieve goal.
But as you don't have much time, I suppose you won't be rested, so no blue =
more played.

HAHAHA
I'm hoping to level mine to 60 too, and he's 44 and I'm not sure I can make
it.

Seriously, go full affliction (destruction have been really nerfed in the
late patch)
Train first aids
Buy food / drink (or find a mage)
Get yourself a shards bag if you can (big one if possible)
Go there if you're alliance (which you did not tell) :
http://www.wow-pro.com/node/599 when you hit 30
Do not try the Class quests (they're great and I loved them but they need a
lot of travelling) except for new pets
Instances is a bit different, for exemple with my own warlock I did very few
of them, ut I'm starting Uldaman ... alone. I was able yesterday to do all
the quests outside, by my own (warlocks are "a bit" cheated ^^) and I did
earn a lot a lot of exp. I don't know if I' gonna try the inside, but not in
PUG if I can.
I'll probably try Zul Farrak tho, lots of quests.
The point is to prepare instances, and do all the quests. You can get a
whole level buy just giving the quests back.
