I think it's conceivable that a large guild pooling excess gold could
get to that level. 200 people each with a thousand gold isn't outside the
realm of possibility for a large raiding guild that makes a fortune selling
epic recipes and crafting materials. *

If he is able to generate so much virtual wealth, has he applied his
gold making strategies to the real world?

If he already has, and because of it has become independently wealthy,
then I can see how he has the time to play.

I need about 1200g to get my 300 riding skill and epic flying mount.
Think he might consider transferring some of that gold my way? Smile

Aboo I beg to differ and let me provide a little evidence for my
arguement Wink

An "integer" data type's precision is 10 digits and it ranges from
-2,147,483,647 through 2,147,483,647.

Compare that number with the maximum gold stated in the article:
214,748 gold, 36 silver, 48 copper. See the correlation? I can only
logically assume that data type is what it's limiting factor is.

Like another poster pointed out there; it makes you wonder if it
really isnt 47copper vs 48 copper but aside from that I'd put my money
with on the data type.

I think those gold cap amounts are usually pooled up from several people
but it is not that rare to have gathered 50k gold or so. For some it's a
game on its own. Simply by farming or grindin you won't get to those
levels, and usually they get their money mainly by 'playing' the AH.
Of course some of those tactics that get you a steady amount of
money from AH are maybe a bit 'shady-assed' Smile

There's an interesting discussion about it on the Elitist Jerks'
Forum: http://elitistjerks.com/f15/t18064-art_making_gold/

So very true. I make a pretty good amount of gold from playing the AH
and such... and I catch myself thinking "why isnt making real money
this easy?"

Like PV said, there's a lot more to it in real life than in wow's
economy.

If everyone could go down to their local walmart, spend $1000 on
merchandise and turn it around in less than 12 hours for 50% profit
without permits, licenses, receipts and quarterly statements for the
business and the IRS, operating expenses, payroll & 401ks etc (we
could go on for hours)... making money would be pretty easy wouldnt
it? Wink

sorry to break your bubble.

As I play on the server now (Lothar EU) that this player was on
previously, he's quite famous for always having had much money.

He's sponsored a tournament in STV Arena for 10k Gold, somehow I don't
think gold farmers would give it away Smile This was before BC.

AFAIK he earned most of it by trading because he's interested in economy
and is also running some economy simulations.

AFAIk the simulation doesn't only work in WOW (or actually wasn't
intended for WOW), so I'm quite sure he's got enough Smile

> If he already has, and because of it has become independently wealthy,

Assuming 100g/hour, 214k is ~89days /played. Quite some time investment,
but I've seen players with > 300 days ...
And at the start of BC you could make insane amounts of money with e.g.
JC. I think you could easily get 4-600g/hour when you were one of the
first on your server with an epic flying mount and the right recipes.

This game is so incrediblebecause you an play it in so many ways...

I knew a guy on my realm (Bronzebeard) who play wow to just make golds.
His fun was to play with AH, mats, etc. He was at 16k when I knew it,
but he was also a casual player and pretty new to the game.

So I think it's possible for one or more old hard core player to gather
all that golds in about 5 years.

I don't know, but as the simulation program isn't written for WOW but
for real world purposes (as I gleaned from some more info), I'd guess
he's got enough money.

> If he already has, and because of it has become independently wealthy,

I'm not sure how much time is actually needed to amass 214k gold.

Let's see, 100g/hour is doable easily. This gives 2140hours or about 89
days played. Hmm, much time, but considering I've seen players with
>300days played ...
And considering that one could create heap loads of money at the start
of BC (when the first level 70 were around) with Jewelcrafting, I'd
guess you could easily make up to 4-600g/hour.

I have a colleague who has made an easy >10k gold in the first two
months, while leveling up his new pala and buying all the JC recipes. He
lost the drive to get more money then, but if he'd have gone on, I think
he'd also be at >50k now easily

What about to play on test realms and then gather mats that you know
will be in heavy use on future patches? That should be insider training
in real life... hehehe
