Get mining and skinning as your professions.

Download the Cartographer addon to keep track of where you've spotted mining
veins and Auctioneer to know how much loot is worth, should be auctioned off
for and if you fill up inventory, what should be dumped. A stack of 20
copper ores is worth in auction around 1 gold piece. That's the fastest
money you can make from levels 1-30, period.

Once you've levelled up to mid teens, you can "patrol" Elwynn Forest,
looking for gold without worrying too much about mobs. Once you've levelled
up to mid 20s, you can patrol Redridge Mountains and Westfall for copper,
tin and silver veins. I'm not sure about other areas in Kalimdor or for the
Horde.

Skinning is a backup when you encounter beasts, you can skin em for profit
as extra loot.

Also there's a spot in Westfall coordinates 31,32, by a windmill, where you
can grind repeatedly on Defias bandits who respawn rather quickly and have a
high drop rate for linen cloth. A stack of 20 linen cloths is worth about 33
silver pieces. If you're in your teens or higher it's a nice grind spot and
farming for linen cloths.

Did you reach outland?.. if not you will have some hard time farming
in Azeroth... In fact I had my epic mount when I was level 61 after
some easy farming in outland.. the drops there are great. Even gray
trash item can be vendored for g+. Once you reach outland stop buying
gear from AH. Quest rewards and instance drops and reputation items
will make you forget how to buy gear from AH.

As of Profs I would strongly suggest mining... Ores in Outland sell
for crazy prices... have a bank alt and keep on sending gold that you
don't really need "keep some for repairs, food, drink, reagents"
